The 1970 1500 HP Camaro That Astounds

Split Second is a 1,500-horsepower 1970 Chevy Camaro built by Roadster Shop in Mundelein, Illinois. The engine is a small block V8 Street Warrior with twin 73mm turbos and a dual fuel system. Fox SV 4.0 shocks assist in keeping the tire contact patches on the road without punishing the driver or passenger.

The Mundelein, Illinois-based Roadster Shop has earned our high expectations, but we have to admit that this 1,500-horsepower 1970 Chevy Camaro still astounds us. Split Second, the appropriately named heavily modified muscle car, isn’t messing around at all. When their Mustang-obsessed friends start wrecking their cars, Chevy guys like to point to this kind of build, only for their friend to whine that it isn’t a factory build. All of that is irrelevant to us because this machine is simply amazing.

First of all, that ridiculous 1,500 horsepower figure alone will cause many people to pause and pay close attention. The Roadster Shop contacted Nelson Racing Engines to build a Kiler 427ci small block V8 Street Warrior with twin 73mm turbos in order to obtain that level of power. A dual fuel system with 16 injectors and a specially constructed fuel tank supply that thirsty setup. It won’t be cheap to operate, but with 1,500 horsepower, who cares? A manual valve body 4L80 transmission, driving a 9-inch solid axle rear, supports that rumbling engine.

Fox SV 4.0 shocks assist in keeping the tire contact patches on the road without punishing the driver or passenger. Brembo Gran Turismo Brakes with 14-inch rotors handle stopping duties. Tucked-in HRE wheels that make a bold statement complement the sleek, chrome-free black exterior.

If you’re curious, the chassis is a Roadster Shop Fast Track Chassis. It has been lowered to a height of about 4.5 inches off the ground to maintain a low center of gravity. Of course, the force-fed small block’s rumble and the exhaust’s burble are also undeniable signs that this is one badass Camaro.
