The four generations of BMW M3
BMW M GmbH revealed its own interpretation of those sports cars with an impressive performance with the debut of BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe. The BMW M3 Coupe has over 40,000 examples around the world and it is expected that the new BMW M4 Coupe will be as successful its “ancestor”. The Coupe will have it debut simultaneously with the four-door variant.
The four generations of BMW M3 mixed all the motor sport types. As we know, the most important feature of every car, is the engine but, the engines of the so-called M models are the key part of the whole vehicle. The all-new turbocharged six-cylinder unit which the BMW M3 Sedan and the BMW M4 Coupe have, is a mix of the high-reviving naturally aspirated unit with the power of a turbocharger technology. The lightweight design concept is responsible for saving more or less- 80 kg over the forthcoming M3, which is possible through a comparably equipped predecessor model.
The BMW M3 and BMW M4 are also equipped with the newest motor sport technology, and another fact is that the laps of the most exacting racecourse ever, called Nürburgring Nordschleife took parts in the transition of the model from the track to the road. These two high-performance vehicles demanded a hard work, but that is the thing that has took them to the top of the world of precise and agile cars.
The BMW M3 Sedan and the BMW M4 Coupe have integrated M TwinPower Turbo technology which is a new concept, together with the above mentioned high-reviving six-cylinder engine which yields an output of 431 hp and its peak torque is 550 Newton meters, equal to 406 lb-ft. The engine’s fuel consumption is reduced and, due to the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission, both of the cars dash from 0 to 100 km/h / 62 mph in 4.1 seconds and they also have carbon roofs.
While designing the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe, the designers’ main objective was to create cars that have amazing race track ability. The transmission and the turbocharger keep the most favorable temperature due to the presence of a newly developed cooling system. The two cars can be easily recognized as racing cars because of their tuning and technical composition. For that reason, designers have also collaborated with the professional racing drivers of BMW Motorsport during the creation of the cars.
