A Piece By Piece Work of Beauty

This 1966 Chevelle was assembled piece by piece over five years by a single enthusiast in his garage. The exterior is two-toned and has a gold and black livery reminiscent of NASCAR racers from the 1960s. The LS3 V8 engine with natural aspiration, rated at about 550 horsepower, is powered by a Tremec T-56 Magnum transmission.

You have to do it yourself if you want it done right, and this 1966 Chevelle with NASCAR influences was done right. This Chevelle, which was assembled piece by piece over five years by a single enthusiast in his garage, is simply dripping with amazing details and personalized touches, as seen in the feature video below.Doss, an Alaskan man who started this build, discovered his project car in pretty bad shape when he first got it. But that was okay because Doss knew he was about to start a major rebuild.Doss reports that “quarter panels were wrecked, and the door panels were full of mud.”

Doss, an engineer by profession, spent months designing the frame with the aid of the 3D modeling program Solidworks. After creating the unique chassis, Doss disassembled the car and customized every part to his specifications.

The exterior is two-toned and has a gold and black livery that is reminiscent of NASCAR racers from the 1960s, specifically Smokey Yunick’s 1967 Chevelle. Simply put, it looks amazing, especially considering that it was a do-it-yourself project. The sides are painted with a large number 13, and everything is neatly welded and cut to fit. The Chevelle can even be equipped with a tow hitch so that it can tow Doss’ small boat, which also has a matching livery, and has a set of C7 Chevy Corvette taillights in the back.

An LS3 V8 engine with natural aspiration, rated at about 550 horsepower, drives the vehicle. Like the Smokey NASCAR, used gas is expelled through side pipes. The V8 is coupled to a Currie Turn 9 rear end via a Tremec T-56 Magnum transmission.

There is a full roll cage inside that is also painted gold to match the exterior. Corbeau seats and Corbeau harnesses help to keep the driver and passenger safely in their seats. A wild-looking, specially constructed steering that was inspired by Formula 1 is also present.

Muscle car fans lived in an exciting time during the 1960s. 1966 marked a turning point for Chevrolet and the Chevelle in particular thanks to the A-body design, which continues to draw enthusiasts of muscle cars today. Doss Daley built a 66 ‘Velle that is heavily influenced by NASCAR in order to revive some of the nostalgia of the 1960s while also giving it a racing kick, and boy does it turn heads. This iconic 1966 Chevelle, which was built entirely in a home garage by an Alaskan engineer, was featured on Autotopia LA. All in all, the amount of effort and attention to detail that went into this build is incredibly impressive, and hey, it also makes for a pretty gnarly burnout.
